As part of the "Leaving No One Behind: Strengthening Civil Society in Nepal to Drive Inclusive Access to Education for All Children" project, implemented in Chhinnamasta and Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipalities under the leadership of Save the Saptari and with support from Save the Children, representatives from RCRD carried out a field visit to assess educational support needs in local schools and among children with disabilities.
From May 13 to 18, RCRD's Inclusion Specialist, Manish Prasai, and MEAL Officer, Kirtan Shrestha Duwaal, visited six public schools supported by the project as well as children with disabilities enrolled in the School-at-Home program. The program supports children who face various barriers to attending school regularly due to disabilities but continue their education at home with assistance from teachers supported by this project.
The primary objective of the visit was to conduct a detailed assessment of the educational materials required by each school and to identify learning and facilitation resources needed by children participating in the School-at-Home initiative.
During the field visit, the team conducted consultations in three community schools in Chhinnamasta and three in Tilathi Koiladi separately. In every school, joint discussions were held with teachers, headteachers, School Management Committee members, representatives of Parent-Teacher Associations, and local organizations of persons with disabilities. The consultations focused on identifying educational materials and resources needed to make teaching and learning more effective and inclusive for children with all diversities, while ensuring the meaningful participation of children with disabilities in the learning process.
In addition, the team visited the homes of six children with disabilities enrolled in the School-at-Home program to assess their individual learning support and educational material needs.
The assessment and field activities were facilitated through the coordination and support of project staff members Anil Kumar Yadav, Santosh Kumar Yadav, and Ram Binay Yadav, who played a key role in organizing and coordinating the visits at the local level.
The findings from the assessment will help guide the provision of appropriate educational materials and learning resources aimed at promoting inclusive and equitable education for children with disabilities in the project areas.
RCRD has been contributing in this project as a technical partner of Save the Children to ensure and promote gender, disability and social inclusion in the project activities.
