Background
As part of the "Quality Education – Leave No One Behind" project, implemented in Madhesh Pradesh, Karnali Pradesh, and Sudurpaschim Pradesh under the leadership of Save the Children and in collaboration with NNSWA, Save the Saptari, and RCRD Nepal, with funding from the European Union, a workshop was conducted in Surkhet from October 22–24.
The goal of the workshop was to develop Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials aimed at raising awareness about child rights and inclusive education. Children from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, participated in the workshop and shared their thoughts, experiences, and ideas through different types of drawings. This initiative not only ought to reflect children’s perspectives in the IEC materials but also to recognize them as cocreators.
Participants included representatives from municipal child networks, youth sound boards, and artists who facilitated the session. Children expressed their life experiences, challenges, and expectations regarding their rights, education, protection, and development through drawings. Based on these contributions, a conceptual framework for IEC materials was developed, focusing on themes such as family environment, barriers in education, community engagement, peer support, investment in inclusive education, child-friendly infrastructure, school enrollment, supportive behavior, and trained teachers.
